Away / home · Times in ETHow Steam Score works
This is a descriptive 0–100 heuristic, not a probability of winning or a claim about who placed a bet. A missing opener or fewer than two observations means no score.
- Size: up to 25. NFL spreads reach the cap at 3 points; totals at 5. NCAAF/CFL use 4 and 6.
- Other books: up to 20, 10 per additional book moving in the same direction from its own opener.
- Key numbers: up to 20 for crossing NFL spread 3 or 7. Landing on a key is not a crossing.
- Speed: up to 15, capped at 2 points per hour between observations.
- Juice: up to 10 for a 4-percentage-point increase in raw implied probability at the same number. This is not a no-vig estimate.
- Persistence: up to 10 after at least three observations. A return of half a move (at least 1 spread point or 2 total points) flags a reversal and removes persistence credit.
0–24 Minimal · 25–44 Mild · 45–64 Moderate · 65–79 Strong · 80–100 Heavy Steam.
Look-ahead is explicitly tagged, never inferred from an opener. Consensus is the median movement among books with an observed opener, not a synthetic tradable line or price. Stale books can disagree; compare timestamps. Closing references freeze permanently when the collector runs after kickoff, using the last verified pregame observation within 30 minutes. Missing closes remain unavailable.
CLV uses the pick's recorded sportsbook. Positive point CLV means a better locked number. Price CLV is shown separately in implied-probability points only when the number is unchanged. Never combine spread and total CLV into one average. Source-linked news context is editorial, not an automatic causal claim.
